Itinerary
Take your time to discover Gothenburg with its exciting places of interest such as the Feskekôrka fish market or the Gothenburg Museum of Art and take a typical Swedish fika break (coffee and cake) in charming Haga district. Besides lovely cafés the area also offers a wonderful selection of small artisan shops. The city is also well-known for its local clothing brands and interior furnishing if you are looking for a souvenir to take home. End your day with the number one speciality from port city Gothenburg for dinner - shrimps, fresh fish, clams and oysters - the selection is huge and yummy!
Off we go! You walk directly from your hotel in Gothenburg to the Skatås outdoor recreation area. Just after a few kilometres you have reached the nature reserve of Delsjön, the largest one in the Gothenburg area. After Skatås you’ll pass Knipeflågsbergen, a huge mountain plateau where you walk up Mount Getryggen. Enjoy the views onto Gothenburg at the top before you continue to lake Kåsjön and Lake Madern. Just perfect for a pause or two to swim in the lake. Soon you’ll Jonsered, a small village with an industrial background before you continue by train to Lerum (not included).
Your tour continues along river Säveån to nature reserve Säveån, today’s highlight. Enjoy the beautiful trail through the nature reserve with chirping birds, salmon in the river and beautiful areas to stop for a pause. Worth-seeing is also the Hillefors grit mill, the only water-driven mill worldwide. Look forward to seeing lots of animals, such as ducks, deer calfs or kingfishers. You’ll continue along river Säveån in the direction of Nääs, along the route a stop at Restaurant Garveriet is worth it. At the castle in Nääs you learn more about it’s interesting history. The national monument and nature reserve is beautifully located at Lake Sävelången. Your route continues through the historic village with its spinning mills down to your hotel.
Your last route leads through varying landscapes, again with options for a swim. Along the shore of Mjörns you reach the Nolhagaviken nature reserve with rich birdlife. Nolhaga castle with interesting art and exhibitions and its English garden can be visited along the trail. Soon after the castle you have reached Alingsås, the city impresses with beautiful wooden buildings and offers plenty of nice cafés.
After breakfast your hiking tour ends. We are happy to extend your holiday with extra nights.
