Use your arrival day to explore the island's capital and take a first dip in the Baltic Sea at one of the beaches near the city. Walk through the alleys of the old town, Rønnes lively center is the marketplace Store Torv. Not only on market days vacationers and locals meet here in one of the numerous cafes or for shopping.
From Rønne, the route of your Bornholm bike tour leads through Hasle and past small fishing settlements. Deep gorges alternate with breathtaking views of the coast. In clear weather, the Swedish mainland can be seen on the horizon. Jons Kapel, whose steep and rugged cliffs drop vertically into the sea, is steeped in legend. At the northern tip of Bornholm, perched on a steep cliff, is the imposing medieval fortress of Hammershus. During a tour of the largest castle ruins in Northern Europe, you will experience Bornholm's history up close! Today you will spend the night either in the idyllic harbor town of Allinge or in the small beach town of Sandkås.
Today you will explore the northern tip of Bornholm with the nature reserve Hammerknuden. Hammerknuden means hammer-shaped granite rock. Here you have the opportunity to leave your bike behind and hike through the beautiful nature. You will encounter traces of granite mining, such as the Opal Lake. Enjoy the view from the lighthouse Hammeren Fyr. At the foot of Hammerknuden, the beach of Sandvig beckons. Feel the fine sand between your toes, relax in the sun and refresh yourself with a swim in the Baltic Sea.
The third stage of your bike tour on Bornholm runs along the northeast coast of the island. Your route leads you past the famous Helligdomsklipperne. It is probably the most impressive rock formation on the entire island. Worth a visit is the Bornholm Art Museum, beautifully situated on the cliffs. About halfway along the route is Gudhjem. Here you should try the specialty "Sun over Gudhjem", named after the village, a Smørrebrød with herring, onions and raw egg yolk, which is served in several traditional smokehouses. Continue on to Svaneke. The town with its well-preserved half-timbered houses built on rock is one of the most beautiful small towns in Denmark. Overnight stay in Svaneke or Balka.
Today's bike tour takes you into the middle of the island. In the artists' village of Østerlars, a visit to the largest and oldest of Bornholm's four round churches is a must. These churches look almost like fortresses. In the past they were used for defense and protection of the citizens. The tour continues through the Almindigen forest. Here too, you will encounter the ruins of Gamleborg and Lilleborg castles, testimonies of Bornholm's martial past. In the middle of the forest Rytterknægten is located. The highest point of Bornholm is adorned by an observation tower, from which you have a fantastic panoramic view.
First you cycle along the coast to the harbor town of Nexø. From Nexø, the bike tour leads inland through wide meadows and fields to Aakirkeby. Again and again you will have a view of Dueodde - the southern tip of Bornholm. In Aakirkeby you will find one of the oldest churches on the island: The Aa Kirke from the 12th century. The NaturBornholm Center is also worth a visit. The adventure center provides interesting information about the unique nature of the island. The rest of the route runs partly on a disused railroad line past Nylar's round church to Rønne.
After breakfast your bike tour ends. We are happy to extend your stay with additional nights.
